These treats are just as addictive as classic “Muddy Buddies” but pack some extra oomph of protein and good fats thanks to replacing rice cereal with your favorite nuts!
What’s especially nice about this treat is that it’s not overly sweet and has a nice crunch to it. Mmmm!
For this recipe, I used a blend of roasted, unsalted almonds and pecans. Cashews and other “meaty” nuts will work really well here also. I personally love peanut butter so that’s the nut butter of choice that I use but almond butter, cashew butter, and sunflower seed butter would be just as tasty.
Hope you enjoy!

Muddy Nutties
Prep time: 20 mins Total time: 20 mins Makes about 2 cups of nuts
Ingredients:
1/2 cup chocolate chips (we like Enjoy Life brand because it’s dairy-free/paleo)
1/2 cup nut butter of choice
2 cups roasted and unsalted nuts (I used almonds and pecans)
1/2 cup coconut sugar, ground into powder
1/2 cup arrowroot powder or tapioca flour
Directions:
Grind coconut sugar into a powder and set aside. Place nuts into a large bowl and set aside.
Heat chocolate chips in microwave 10-15 seconds at a time, stirring in between each cycle, until chocolate is melty and smooth. Stir nut butter into chocolate.
Pour chocolate and nut butter mixture over nuts and stir till well coated and chocolate has cooled.
Add powdered coconut sugar and stir until well coated.
Sprinkle arrowroot powder along the bottom of a sheet pan. Dump coated nuts into the pan and stir till well coated. Break up any large clusters as desired.
Enjoy!
Tips:
– Feeling adventurous? Spice the chocolate mixture with a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy hot chocolate treat.
– If cane sugar is a part of your diet, you can easily substitute powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar) for both the ground coconut sugar and arrowroot powder in this recipe.
